Job Summary:
The Director, Compensation and Benefits is a strategic leader responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and administering all compensation and benefits programs at Groupe Dynamite. This role ensures that our total rewards philosophy is competitive, equitable, compliant with all relevant Canadian and American legislation, and aligned with the organization's strategic objectives to attract, retain, and motivate a high-performing workforce. The Director will drive market competitiveness, internal equity, and overall effectiveness of our total rewards offerings.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Strategy & Design:
Develop and champion a comprehensive total rewards strategy (compensation, benefits, and recognition programs) that aligns with the company's business goals, talent strategy, and values;
Lead the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of all compensation programs, including base pay structures, variable pay plans (short-term incentives, sales incentives, bonuses), long-term incentives (e.g., RSUs, stock options), and executive compensation;
Oversee the design, selection, and administration of employee benefits programs, including health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, retirement plans (e.g., RRSP, DPSP), wellness programs, and other perquisites;
Conduct regular market analysis and benchmarking studies to ensure the competitiveness of compensation and benefits programs across all levels and geographies;
Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices, and legislative changes related to compensation and benefits in Canada and the U.S., making recommendations for program enhancements and policy updates.
2. Program Management & Administration:
Manage the annual compensation review process, including salary budgeting, merit increases, promotions, and adjustments;
Oversee the administration of all benefits plans, including enrollment, vendor management, claims resolution, and annual renewals;
Conduct job evaluations, analyze job descriptions, and ensure accurate job classification and salary grade assignments to maintain internal equity;
Collaborate with Finance to manage compensation and benefits budgets, providing accurate forecasting and reporting;
Develop clear and effective communication strategies to ensure that employees understand and value their total rewards package;
Manage relationships with external benefits providers, compensation consultants, and other third-party vendors.
3. Compliance & Governance:
Ensure that all compensation and benefits programs are in full compliance with relevant federal, provincial, and state employment standards, human rights legislation, tax laws, pay equity legislation, and other statutory requirements;
Develop and maintain robust compensation and benefits policies, procedures, and internal controls;
Prepare and present reports on compensation and benefits metrics, trends, and strategies to executive leadership and the Board of Directors (as required);
Oversee and coordinate internal and external audits related to compensation and benefits.
4. Leadership & Consulting:
Provide expert guidance and consultation to HR Business Partners, senior leadership, and managers on all compensation and benefits-related matters, including job offers, internal transfers, policy interpretation, and performance-based pay decisions;
Lead, mentor, and develop the Compensation and Benefits team, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence;
Collaborate cross-functionally with other HR functions (Talent Acquisition, HR Operations, HRBP), Finance, Legal, and IT to ensure the seamless integration and delivery of total rewards programs.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field, and a Master's degree preferred;
10+ years of progressive experience in Compensation and Benefits management, with at least 3 to 5 years in a leadership/Director role, preferably within a dynamic and growth-oriented environment;
A Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) or CRHA (in Quebec) designation is an asset;
In-depth knowledge of employment laws, tax regulations, and benefits legislation, particularly with a specific understanding of Quebec's distinct legal and social security landscape (e.g., QPIP, health taxes, pay equity laws);
Proven experience in designing and implementing competitive compensation structures, incentive plans, and comprehensive benefits programs;
Strong analytical, financial modelling, and data interpretation skills with proficiency in HRIS (e.g., Workday, SAP, UKG), compensation management software, and advanced Excel;
Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and build strong relationships at all levels of the organization, including executive leadership;
Demonstrated strategic thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a results-oriented approach;
Experience with global or multi-jurisdictional compensation and benefits practices is an asset;
Bilingualism (French and English) is required for daily communication with suppliers, employees, and stakeholders, both within and outside of Quebec.
