Job Summary:
As a Senior Database Administrator (Snowflake), you will lead the design, management, and optimization of Snowflake. You will be responsible for performance tuning, cost management, data integration, and ensuring the security and reliability of database systems. In this role, you will collaborate closely with data engineers, analysts, architects, and business stakeholders to support data-driven initiatives and uphold a robust analytics infrastructure. You will report directly to the Senior Director of Data, Analytics and AI.
Responsibilities:
- Database Administration: Administer, monitor, and troubleshoot Snowflake environments across production and development, ensuring data availability, data security, and compliance with governance policies;
- Performance Optimization: Optimize queries, caching, clustering, and data models in Snowflake for performance and cost efficiency;
- Data Integration: Manage ETL/ELT processes and ensure seamless data ingestion from multiple on-premise and cloud-based sources using tools such as Azure and dbt;
- Cloud Architecture: Design and implement scalable Snowflake architectures, supporting hybrid data environments and cloud migration strategies;
- Infrastructure Automation: Use Terraform or other Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools to automate Snowflake resource provisioning and deployments;
- Collaboration: Partner with DevOps, Engineering, AI, and Analytics teams to define data platform requirements and ensure operational excellence;
- Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of Snowflake environments, procedures, and architectural decisions;
- Security & Governance: Enforce role-based access control, audit logging, and data protection best practices across the platform;
- Innovation: Evaluate emerging database and cloud technologies and propose enhancements to the existing ecosystem.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field;
- 5+ years of experience working with Snowflake in enterprise-scale environments;
- Strong technical skills, namely in-depth knowledge of Snowflake architecture, performance tuning, cost optimization, and best practices, as well as a strong understanding of data warehousing, SQL, and RDBMS platforms such as PostgreSQL;
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, IaC tools (e.g., Terraform), and familiarity with cloud platforms like Salesforce and Azure;
- Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages such as Python for automation and tooling;
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex data environment issues and propose effective solutions;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present technical topics to cross-functional teams;
- Strong teamwork skills and comfortable working in collaborative environments with engineers, analysts, architects, and business stakeholders;
- Certifications such as SnowPro Advanced Architect or SnowPro Core are considered assets;
- Experience in retail is an asset.
