Job Summary:
The Director of Construction and Maintenance is accountable for the management of the Construction and Maintenance departments while ensuring budget compliance. This person will lead the Construction and Maintenance teams to ensure successful execution and delivery of projects with the highest level of completion and minimal deficiencies, while always respecting budgets and delivery dates.
Key Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the timely and quality execution of all new store openings, relocations, and renovations;
- Lead a team of Construction Project Managers (CPMs), providing coaching, development, and support to elevate team and individual performance;
- Oversee Facilities team and maintenance of existing stores, Head Office, and Distribution Centre;
- Manage overall team workload and direct project assignments for CPMs and General Contractors;
- Partner with Real Estate and Store Design to review potential retail locations and provide budget/cost estimate input in preparation for Real Estate Committee approval;
- Responsible for overall cost management, including the development of detailed cost estimates for approved retail locations, accurate budget tracking for active projects, and timely closeouts for completed projects;
- Oversee and manage relationships for all current or potential General Contractors and Vendors, providing feedback on performance and alignment for rollout strategies;
- Partner with Store Design, Procurement, and Visual Merchandising to provide input and an execution plan for any new or proposed store elements;
- Plan, coordinate and supervise any renovation or maintenance work for the Head Office or the Distribution Centre.
- Ensure tight control on costs and apply value engineering on projects when required.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree or a related degree in engineering is an asset;
- 8-12 years+ experience in leadership roles focused on retail construction;
- Strong understanding of the construction industry, specifically in retail, and store development processes, procedures, and best practices;
- Experience leading a team of CPMs, with a clear ability to provide coaching and mentorship;
- Ability to handle a pressure environment and continue to perform at a high level;
- Develop relationships with internal and external partners;
- Retail experience is an asset;
- Excellent communication skills with proficiency in written and verbal French/English proficiency is an asset;
- Candidate must be based in Montréal;
- Strong knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, Auto Cad;
- A proven track record of achieving results on time and within budget;
- Strong decision-making abilities;
- Willing to travel across Canada and the U.S.
