Role Overview:
We are looking for a Legal Advisor with at least 7 years of experience who will work closely with the head of Legal Affairs and Corporate Secretary to provide legal advice and support on a variety of corporate transactions and matters. The role involves ensuring compliance with Quebec laws, drafting and reviewing legal documents, managing corporate governance, and supporting the company's business strategies while minimizing legal risks.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing corporate governance compliance and maintaining corporate books and records;
- Draft, review, and negotiate contracts, and other legal documents providing legal support during negotiations;
- Conduct legal research on corporate matters, provide advice and research on compliance with laws and regulations;
- Support expansion strategy, including due diligence and transaction structuring;
- Ensure the company complies with local and international laws, regulations, and reporting and privacy requirements;
- Handle dispute resolution, coordinate with external counsel on litigation, and provide legal guidance to departments;
- Draft internal policies for compliance and risk management while staying updated on legal trends and emerging risks;
- Manage compliance with internal policies in cooperation with internal audit functions.
Qualifications:
- Be a member of the Quebec Bar Association;
- At least 7 years of experience in Corporate Law;
- Experience in the retail industry is an asset;
- Knowledge of U.S. laws is an asset;
- Experience working for a public company is preferred;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong attention to details organizational and administrative skills;
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and evolve in a fast-paced environment;
- Autonomous and capable of managing priorities;
- Experience in intellectual property matters (trademarks, copyright, etc.) is an asset;
- Bilingual (French and English), written and spoken.
