Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Director, Taxation is responsible for overseeing all taxation matters for the organization. This role involves managing tax compliance, planning, and strategy for both corporate tax and indirect tax, ensuring adherence to all applicable Canadian and U.S. tax laws and regulations and the tax laws of any other jurisdiction of the Company in the future. The Director will lead a team of tax professionals and work closely with other departments to optimize the company's tax position.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the company's tax compliance, including preparation and filing of all federal, provincial, state and local tax returns.
  • Calculate the tax provision and all tax documentation supporting quarterly and year-end tax provision.
  • Develop and implement tax strategies to minimize the company's tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on tax implications of business decisions and transactions, including transfer pricing and customs matters.
  • Manage all transfer pricing documentation.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of TSX listing requirements and disclosure obligations regarding tax matters.
  • Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals, foster a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Manage external tax advisors and consultants, ensuring effective engagement and cost control.
  • Manage relationships with tax authorities and external tax advisors.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations and assess their impact on the company.
  • Conduct tax research and analysis to identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies.
  • Handle cross-border transactions and tax repatriation matters.
  • Partner closely with finance, accounting, legal, treasury, and other departments to ensure tax considerations are integrated into business decisions.
  • Communicate complex tax concepts clearly and concisely to non-tax professionals.
  • Prepare and manage the tax budget and forecast.
  • Ensure accurate and timely tax reporting and documentation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, master’s degree in Tax or related field
  • Professional accounting designation, an asset (CPA, CA).
  • Proven experience with reporting and compliance requirements specific to companies traded on the TSX.
  • Comprehensive understanding of corporate governance and financial reporting standards applicable to TSX-listed companies,
  • particularly those related to taxation.
  • Experience in managing tax implications associated with equity financing, stock options, and other securities transactions relevant to TSX-listed companies.
  • In-depth knowledge of Canadian and American tax laws and regulations.
  • Experience with U.K. tax laws and regulations an asset.
  • Extensive experience in corporate taxation, preferably in a publicly traded company.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in tax software and financial systems.
